TouchBase Lanarkshire is a new, exciting and fully accessible base for people with communication support needs in Lanarkshire – and it’s now open.
Purpose-built and fully accessible space over two buildings. The main building is the hub of our varied and exciting activities while the second building houses the main reception area, a large event space and meeting rooms.
Welcoming, secure reception
The entrance to the main building security controlled and will be used mainly be our staff and members. There’s also a separate visitor entrance.
A bright, spacious area with lots of natural light that’s ideal for group activities and social events. With projector facilities, it’s also a great space for cinema nights.
The main space is also the friendly and sociable dining area where we serve lunch.
We serve delicious home-cooked lunches every day in the dining area. We offer at least three options each day including favourites such as homemade soup, macaroni cheese and mince and potatoes as well toasties, sandwiches and baked potatoes.
We’re always happy to accommodate individual dietary requirements.
The hub of the self-contained art room is the accessible and adjustable craft table which can be altered to suit our users.
Our trained staff deliver creative art sessions which include soap and candle making, painting and sensory experiences.
From bells to bongos and glockenspiels to guitars, there’s a wide range of instruments to suit everyone in our fantastic music room.
Many of our bigger instruments like our drum kit and key board are also fully accessible and adjustable to different heights, and are able to fit around wheelchairs and other equipment.
This room offers a stimulating sensory experience through the use of ultra-violet lights, fibre optics and bubble tubes.
A firm favourite in the Sensory room is our amazing magic carpet. The carpet is an interactive floor projection system that encourages engagement through fun games and activities for all abilities.
There’s two quiet rooms for when our members want to escape the hustle and bustle.
One room offers a quiet, relaxing space to simply chill out. The other is a private individual space which can also be used for appointments with dieticians, oral hygienists and other health professionals.
Activity and sports hall
The super sunken trampoline is the highlight of the hall but it’s also a spacious hub for a range of group games and activities.
The hall is fully accessible and fitted with a tracking hoist to allow our members to move safely and easily around the equipment.
We’re also supported by NHS physiotherapists who regularly use the hall to carry out physiotherapy exercises with our members.
The healthcare and treatment room is used to meet our users’ individual health requirements.
Personal care suites
Our personal care suites are bright, clean and private rooms and also include fully accessible showers.
The suites are spacious and fitted with hoists which allow members to move around the room easily.
Fully accessible kitchen
We have a separate, fully accessible and user friendly kitchen for our members. As well as offering fun activities like cooking and baking, it’s also encourages independence and the development of new skills.
Our event space is a great area for group events, parties and social activities. It’s even got its own projector so it’s perfect for our planned cinema nights.
