Storytelling and Performance at Sense Scotland

What is storytelling?

Storytelling is the art of communicating events, ideas, and emotions through the use of words and images. It has been a part of human culture for thousands of years, serving to entertain, educate, and inspire. Effective storytelling can transport the audience to another place, time, or perspective, creating a strong emotional connection. Whether it is a fairy tale, a news report, or a personal anecdote, storytelling has the power to captivate and engage listeners.

How do the people we support engage in storytelling?

Our employed storytellers help the people we support to engage in sensory storytelling. This kind of storytelling appeals to the five senses to create a more immersive experience for them. By including sensory details, our storytellers can help the people we support to experience the story as if they were there.

What is our performance group?

The performance group is made up of artists we support who are interested in using their bodies in a visual arts capacity. We upcycle everyday materials in our sessions, exploring their sensory properties and creating performative experiences. We look to create props, costume, characters, movement and actions through the use of play and visual experimentation.
