How can Family Support help you and your family?

Our Family Support staff can assist you in the following ways:

  • Provide support and information pre and post-diagnosis
  • Attend meetings with statutory agencies including education, health, and social care, to support you to express your views and opinions and achieve a positive outcome
  • Provide information on guardianship and power of attorney
  • Help you to complete an emergency plan for the person you care for
  • Explain your rights and help ensure these rights are upheld
  • Provide general information on sleep strategies and help you access specialist support
  • Offer parent and carer workshops on topics including transition, carers’ rights, and puberty
  • Hold parent and carer coffee mornings to enable individuals to meet and access peer support

Where can I find out about parent/carer workshops and coffee mornings?

We’ll post information about our forthcoming events on our events page and social media

If you have an idea for a workshop or event which you’d like us to deliver, please let us know

How do I contact Family Support?

You can contact our Family Support service through our information line or by using our enquiry form.

Presentations

Social Security Scotland have produced a presentation which provides an overview of who they are and of the services they provide. This also includes details about the change from Personal Independent Payment (PIP) to Adult Disability Payment and information on the different ways they can support individuals in applying.

Looking for an independent advocate?

There are independent advocacy organisations across Scotland helping people to have their voices heard in decisions which affect their lives. Independent advocates work in a variety of settings including the community, education, care homes, prisons and hospital settings.

To find out more, visit the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance’s website.
