Sense Scotland to Work with Social Enterprise Mecoco

Mecoco is a social enterprise based in North Ayrshire which makes candles, reed diffusers and other fragrance products. The business was founded in 2019 by Jenny, whose son James was getting ready to leave school. For James, a young person with a learning disability, and Jenny, this was a daunting time. Jenny felt strongly that all young people should have the opportunity to do something meaningful with their time.

At Mecoco, inclusion doesn’t just mean all disabled people, it means all people. Colleagues work together, some disabled and some not. Friendships are formed and a new understanding created.

Mecoco’s ethos, values and commitment to inclusion align with Sense Scotland, a Scottish charity and specialised social care provider supporting people with communication support needs and their families. Sense Scotland offer several programmes, services and events across Scotland including: supported living, respite services, early years events and arts programmes.

The organisations have agreed to work together over the next six months to learn and support each other. Sense Scotland will provide communications and marketing, fundraising and business development support, whilst Mecoco will share their model of meaningful contribution in the community with Sense Scotland staff. We are excited about the possibilities this relationship will bring.

Jenny Trott, founder of Mecoco said, “We have a vision at Mecoco to welcome more people for meaningful work experience, expand our product range and continue demonstrating best practice for inclusive employment. We’re thrilled to be working with the team at Sense Scotland and we’re excited about what we’ll all achieve in the coming months.”

Angela Bonomy, Chief Executive Officer of Sense Scotland said, “We were delighted and flattered to be approached by Mecoco about working together. We realise we have a lot in common and look forward to working with Jenny and the team over the next six months.”
