Description

This greetings card is a print from the original mixed media canvas by Sense Scotland young artist Matthew Goode. It was created over many weeks in the Sense Scotland art studio, as the painting developed and different textures were added. Acrylic paints were used of different consistencies, some thicker, some more watered down, to create splash effects.

The original canvas was long and thin (120cm x 40cm). To make a long portrait canvas this shape is always a challenge for an artist. Long brushes were created and were needed to reach the full length of it, working with the canvas horizontal on an art table. A skinny long bamboo brush was created to splash the glue into place so that a mixture of textures would stick on.

The painting is mixed media. It incorporates pebbles which are actually stuck on and were collected from the beach. You can almost see the effect of the splash of the waves washing over onto them.

Shells were crushed in a fabric bag using a large mallet – a process which Matthew greatly enjoyed. Just below that section is a patch of actual sand which was collected from the beach and stuck on. The rest of the canvas was covered in paint, in different shades of blues and greens, reflective of the ocean.

Greetings card size: 5″ x 7″.  Complete with envelope.
