Description
This greetings card is a print from the original multi media canvas “Volcano” by Sense Scotland young artist Matthew Goode.
Imelda Neale, a Sense Scotland Art Tutor, refers to the colours in this vibrant multitextured canvas as “hot”. It shows vibrancy, life, heat and flame, possibly even the destruction that a volcano can cause. It is very different in mood to “Sea and Shells”.
Once again, the specially created long paintbrush was needed to rach all areas of the canvas. This painting began with a red background and evolved into these wonderful shades of orange, yellow and black.
A large round metal bowl was also used to create circular shapes. When the bowl was knocked over, this was very loud and amusing to Matthew. Sometimes the bowl would even land on the floor making a crash! you can see one of these circular shapes above the dark section towards the centre of the painting. Different materials were used to create textures, small pieces of coal, and melted plastics. It definetly gives the feel of a volcanic eruption, in the way it is composed.
