Matt Art “Autumn Leaves” Greetings Card

This is a print of “Autumn Leaves” by Sense Scotland artist Matthew Goode. Greetings card complete with envelope.

Autumn was a special time with Matthew, he loved the sound of the leaves crunching underneath the wheels of his chair, the wind when it was soft making the branches rustle on the trees, the sound of the flag flapping on the flag pole and the crows roosting and calling in the giant oak tree. So this seemed a relevant subject for a canvas.

The original painting was created by Matthew and Mum Katriona together, at home during lockdown. It was made using a black canvas. Matthew was cortically blind, but would see bright colours like yellow, red and orange and it helped if there was a contrast to those colours, hence trying the black canvas, which was an experiment.

They used acrylic paints and long handled traditional art brushes working hand over hand together, as well as feathers they collected from the crows in the garden, which were dipped into paint and used to make different marks and textures. It was a joyful messy process, and one of the few times Katriona was directly involved in creating art with Matthew. It is a precious memory.
