Our Story

Mecoco means “Meaningful Contribution in the Community”. We make beautifully hand-crafted home fragrance products – candles, melts, and reed diffusers – but our real purpose is people.

Our volunteers, most of whom are profoundly disabled and have complex needs, are at the heart of everything we do. They’re involved in every stage of the process, creating products that are as unique, colourful, and creative as they are.

We were established in 2019 to fill a gap that no one else was addressing: to give disabled people the opportunity to experience real, meaningful work in a fully inclusive, respectful, and empowering environment.

In 2023, we became a part of the Sense Scotland family.

Our Volunteers

At Mecoco, we don’t just believe in everyone’s potential – we make space for it to shine.

Our volunteers are not defined by what they can’t do. Instead, they are recognised and celebrated for what they can. Many are non-verbal, use wheelchairs, or need full-time care – and yet at Mecoco they take on real responsibilities.
They clock in, work in teams, wear uniforms, take tea breaks, and receive expenses – just like any workplace. We have adapted the production process so that anyone can be involved, irrespective of their level of support need. They are proud to be part of something meaningful. And they belong.

We’re proud to say that Mecoco brings together one of the most diverse workforces in the country. Disabled and non-disabled people work side by side, learning from each other in a space that is fun, respectful, and deeply inclusive. Every visitor leaves inspired by what our team achieves.

Our Products

Ethical, beautiful, and full of character.

At Mecoco, creating high-quality home fragrance products has always been at the heart of what we do. From day one, we’ve been committed to making candles and wax melts that are just as good – if not better – than those you’ll find in the shops or online.

We use top-quality ingredients and add our own unique twist to popular scents, with quirky names, playful colours, and fun melt shapes. Our products reflect the creativity and individuality of the amazing people we support – because they’re involved in every step of the process.
Sustainability and ethical choices matter to us. Our candles and melts are made from responsibly sourced soy wax, grown in America. Soy wax is a clean-burning, long-lasting vegetable wax, giving you a better, slower burn that enhances your sensory experience.

All of our fragrance oils are vegan-friendly, paraben-free, and sourced from trusted suppliers in France and the UK. We use organic, vegan dyes that haven’t been tested on animals, and we never include plastic in our products.
Our tins are aluminium, which means they’re easy to clean and fully recyclable. And we love seeing them come back! Many customers return their used tealight cups so we can refill them to create our unscented “An Old Flame” tealights.

We’re also working towards Vegan Friendly certification, because we believe great products should be kind to people, animals, and the planet.
