Safety

We want to make sure that you get the best from your Mecoco products, so here are our top tips and advice!

  1. Trim the wick. Before lighting, trim the wick to about 5mm. This helps the candle burn more evenly, reduces the chance of excessive smoke, and prevents a tall flame that could be dangerous.
  2. Burn for the right amount of time. The first time you light your Mecoco candle, keep it lit until the top surface of the wax is completely melted. This will help your candle to burn evenly. You should never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. This can cause the candle to overheat and potentially affect the scent thrown and burn quality.
  3. Extinguish safely. When you’re done, extinguish the candle by gently blowing on the wick or using a candle snuffer. Avoid blowing too hard, as it can cause hot wax to splatter.
  4. Light your candle in a safe place. Wind or air drafts can cause an uneven burn and lead to excess smoke or flickering. Keep candles in a draft-free area. Keep lit candles out of reach of children and animals. Always ensure at least 10cm between lit candles.
  5. Burn on a safe surface. Take care where you place your candle when it is lit. We check our containers don’t exceed safe temperatures as they burn, but the base of any candle can get warm, and this could damage the surfaces of furniture. Candles should always be placed on a heat-resistant surface, and you should ensure they’re away from anything flammable. Tea lights should be placed in a tea light holder before lighting. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  6. Avoid moving a lit candle. Never move a candle while it’s lit. This could lead to spills of hot wax or burns.
  7. Store properly. When not in use, store candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or heat. This helps maintain the quality of the wax and scent.
  8. Dispose of safely. When the candle has burned down to about 5mm of wax, it’s time to dispose of it. You can clean out any remaining wax to repurpose the container for other uses.

Following these tips will help extend the life of your candles and create a safer burning experience.

  1. Prepare your wax melter. Ensure your wax melter is clean. Care should be taken over where you place wax melters. Please follow the safety instructions outlined above for candles.
  2. Add your wax melt. Place one or more wax melts (depending on the desired strength of the scent) into the well of your wax melter.
  3. Turn on the melter. Switch on your melter and the heat will slowly melt the wax, releasing the fragrance into the air. For tealight melters, ensure the tealight is safely placed and not too close to flammable items. Do not leave a lit tealight unattended.
  4. Dispose of used wax. Once the scent has faded, the wax should be removed from the melter. This will ensure that any new wax burns more effectively. Gently warm the wax using a fresh tealight and then either slide out the wax, or leave it to melt and use a piece of kitchen paper to absorb and wipe away the wax and discard in your bin.
  5. Store your wax melts. Store your wax melts in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve their scent for longer.
  1. Choose the right location. Place your reed diffuser on a stable, flat surface, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or open windows to prevent rapid evaporation.
  2. Flip reeds for a stronger scent. For a stronger fragrance, flip the reeds regularly. Use a paper towel or gloves to avoid direct contact with the oil.
  3. Adjust scent strength. Use more reeds for a stronger aroma, or fewer for a more subtle scent.
  4. Replace reeds periodically. Over time, reeds can become saturated and less effective. We recommend replacing them every 3-4 months or when changing fragrance oils.
  5. Refill carefully. If using refill oil, pour slowly and use a funnel if necessary to avoid spillages. If using our refill bottles to fill your own container, please check that it is suitable for the purpose, that it is watertight, and that it will not react to the diffuser liquid. Mecoco cannot be held responsible for damage caused by using our refills in any containers other than our own diffuser glass bottles.
  6. Keep away from children and animals. Reed diffuser oils are not safe to ingest or apply to skin. Always place out of reach of children and animals. If anyone ingests the oil, seek immediate medical help.
  7. Avoid direct contact with skin and surfaces. Always place out of reach of children and animals. If anyone ingests the oil seek immediate medical help.
  8. Do not light the reeds. Reed diffusers are for scent diffusion only – do not use near open flames or attempt to burn the reeds.
  9. Use in well-ventilated areas. Ensure the room has airflow to prevent the scent from becoming too concentrated.
  10. Store safely. Diffusers should be stored in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and flames.
  11. Dispose of responsibly. Dispose of empty bottles and used reeds according to local waste disposal guidelines.
