ASDAN Awards

Training opportunities with Sense Scotland

At Sense Scotland we are committed to helping you develop skills in learning, employment and life. As an ASDAN registered centre, we offer three awards programmes that allow you to learn through experience.

What are ASDANS Awards?

ASDAN Awards are recognised qualifications that are open to everyone and offer a flexible way of recognising personal development.

Some of the awards presented to our members included ‘Cooking’ ‘Using Public Transport’ and ‘Coping With People’ – everyday things that many of us take for granted but present great challenges for the people we support.

We offer three different programmes:

New Horizons

This is an activity-based programme, developed for learners who have a special educational need.

The programme is learner-centred, offering both structure and flexibility. It provides recognition for small steps in achievement, helping learners grow confident as they learn.

The activities also offer an opportunity to develop communication and numeracy skills in a life skills setting. Activities are structured within five modules:

  • Personal
  • Social
  • Health
  • Citizenship
  • Relationships

This programme provides a framework to develop a range of employability skills, like timekeeping, working in a team and getting help with problems at work.

Workright prepares learners for life at work so they can start a career with confidence.

The programme has been developed for young people (aged 14+) and adults who are following a work-based and/or work experience programme of study.

Towards Independence

This is an activity-based learning plan for adult students through which personal, social and independence skills can be developed and accredited.

The programme offers formal recognition for small steps of achievement towards a larger goal.

The initial module ‘Starting Out’ is mandatory and helps the learner to recognise achievements and identify learning challenges and targets.

There are 40 modules to choose from including skills like:

  • Meal Preparation and Cooking
  • Using Public Transport
  • Managing Money
