Volunteering

Volunteering in your free time can make a real difference to your life, as well as to the people we support at Sense Scotland. Whilst developing new skills and making new friends, you'll feel a valued part of our team.

Arts volunteer

Volunteers are at the very heart of our organisation and complement the wider work of Sense Scotland. Everyone has their own reason for wanting to volunteer, however we hope that you will:

  • Meet new people
  • Build your skills and experience
  • Have a positive impact on the lives of people we support and their families
  • Have fun!

We will support you by providing:

  • A comprehensive induction into the organisation and your role as a volunteer
  • Support from an allocated staff member and the National Volunteer Coordinator
  • A volunteer handbook outlining our policies and procedures
  • Ongoing training opportunities, in person and online

We have rewarding volunteer opportunities across Scotland, in a variety of important roles, including:

Early YearsEarly Years

Our enthusiastic Play Activities volunteers help within the Early Years programme at our weekend Stay and Play workshops. Volunteers help children and their families to have fun, interact with one another and participate in a range of exciting activities including messy play, sensory activities, music, dance and storytelling.

One Giant Leap

Are you free evenings, looking to gain experience in youth work or social care and want to share your skills and experience with a group of young people in the process of leaving school? Then take one giant leap and volunteer with us as a Group Supporter!

We're always looking for friendly, energetic volunteers; there's a big focus on peer support and socialising, so you should enjoy having fun! You'll help in Glasgow, Dundee or Lanarkshire supporting young people to access activities such as art, music, drama, dancing, singing, parties, cooking and gardening.

More information about this role can be found here: Group Supporter Volunteer Role Profile.

Charity Shops

Sense Scotland is always in need of generous people who can spare some of their time to help out in one of our shops.

Our fantastic volunteers help out in many ways and are responsible for carrying out a variety of shop duties, including creating window displays, assisting customers and working on the cash register. You'll gain retail experience with full training provided.
