A host of current and former politicians and football stars took to the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie to raise over £5,000 for Sense Scotland.
Debt recovery company, Mackenzie Hall helped organise an exciting charity footbal match to raise funds for us. Andy Goram (former Scottish International and Rangers goalkeeper) and Frank McAvennie (former Scottish International and Celtic striker) joined Mackenzie Hall employees and clients to face MPs, MSPs and Sense Scotland staff. Pamela Nash, the MP for Airdrie and Shotts took to the terraces to show her support.
"Even though it was a wet and windy morning at New Broomfield, sprits were high and both teams appeared to be taking the match very seriously. It was great to see everyone giving up their time to help raise awareness of Sense Scotland and the important work they do. I know that the referee and his assistant donated their time freely as did all of the team members."
Our Chief Executive Andy Kerr added:
"This fundraising event is a fantastic boost for Sense Scotland. I'd like to thank everyone who took part in the football match and would encourage people to find other ways to raise money for Sense Scotland."
It was a closely run match with the Sense Scotland/Politicians team narrowly beating Mackenzie Hall four goals to three. There was a guaranteed £3000 in place for the match plus £500 for every goal past Andy Goram. Match officials generously waived their fees bringing the total raised on the day to £5180.
