Since 2005 Sense Scotland has offered an innovative programme of outdoor activities. Initially established with funding from the Big Lottery’s Active Futures fund the resource now covers the whole of Scotland providing support to disabled people in all forms of outdoor activity. Sessions range from gardening to climbing, and through one-to-one support can focus on a specific theme, both as project based or group activities. The primary aims for all activities are socialisation, the enjoyment of Scotland’s unique outdoor environment and the development of healthy lifestyles.

Current regional projects include:

  • In the East, the Fife Sensory Impairment Service funds activities, which include a weekly group walk and themed outdoor events.
  • In the Highlands, Paths for All and Scottish Natural Heritage currently fund a walk leader post for three days a week.
  • In the North, Peter from Aberdeen has been working hard to save for several winter trips to Norway.
  • In the West, adult day services in Glasgow and our Aveyron Centre (Hamilton) have just begun weekly walking groups. A “girls group” from children and families have also been exploring Pollok Park

Our outdoor activities have been funded through a number of different partners:
