Plans revealed for new TouchBase project

Sense Scotland band playing music in the new resource centre

We have announced the name of our major new resource base for the people we support and the local community. TouchBase, in Glasgow's Kinning Park, will serve as a fully accessible space where people can meet, access support and advice, enjoy a courtyard café and take part in a range of creative activities. The resource base, which will also incorporate head office functions, is due to open at the end of 2006. We still need to raise £1 million to complete all phases of the construction work, including specialist fixtures and fittings.

"With music, visual art, drama and woodwork sessions, training, advice and support services all under one roof, TouchBase will be a fantastic place for disabled children and adults to drop in to, for activities and events, or to relax in the community café," explained our Chief Executive, Gillian Morbey. "It will also be a great resource for the local community and a lively place for people to visit. We welcome any fundraising support to help us realise our vision for the space."

The announcement and naming took place in the 27,000ft square space as a group of Sense Scotland musicians took centre stage with their junk orchestra performance. Using scraps of machinery and fittings from the old building the musicians performed a specially commissioned piece. A film with a digital walkthrough of the base and interviews with the people who will be using the resource was also shown.
