Sense Scotland Patron's final duty

Dr Mary, Dowager Countess of Strathmore presented with a painting by artist Brian Crichton

Dr Mary, Dowager Countess of Strathmore was presented with a painting by Brian Crichton to celebrate her wonderfully supportive time as Sense Scotland's Patron. To celebrate her last official role as the charity's Patron, Sense Scotland decided to present her with a significant and meaningful piece of art, by artist Brian Crichton. Brian, who is supported by Sense Scotland to live in his own home, enjoys regular art sessions with Julie Boswell, Arts Tutor for the East of Scotland. Brian worked for some time, during sessions with Julie, to create his interpretation of Mary, Dowager Countess's family home, Glamis Castle. He then had the honour of unveiling and presenting Mary with the work in the company of his parents.

We are hopeful that the painting will eventually find a home in a public area of Glamis Castle so that our friends and colleagues can see Brian's painting in situ.

During the official royal opening of TouchBase by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, she acknowledged the dedicated support that Mary, Dowager Countess of Strathmore has given to Sense Scotland since it started in 1985. Gillian Morbey, Chief Executive of Sense Scotland said:

"We have had a long and wonderful relationship with Lady Strathmore, during which time she has been an active and involved supporter of the work we do across Scotland. There are several projects and services, which owe their existence to her persuasive and passionate support; this stemmed from her genuine care and interest in the children, adults and families supported by Sense Scotland. We are delighted that while Lady Strathmore will be stepping down from active support, she will remain a lifetime friend in a capacity of Honorary Patron."

We are also delighted to welcome our new Patron, the Duchess of Sutherland who was also in attendance at the royal launch. We look forward to working with her in the future and are certain that it will be a rewarding and stimulating partnership.
