Sir Terry Wogan Launches TouchBase Family Resource
Sir Terry Wogan has just launched our new Children and Family suite in TouchBase, made possible by the £333,783 funding from Children in Need. The event was an opportunity for Sense Scotland and Children in Need to celebrate this wonderful new resource and for children and families to sample this unique new space.
As well as drama, arts and music workshops people were treated to a performances from a junk orchestra and two music sets led by service users. There was also a surprise for Sir Terry Wogan when Music Tutor (and former member of 80's band The Bluebells) David McCluskey, presented him with a signed copy of the TOGS anthem 'Young at Heart'.
Based in Kinning Park, Glasgow TouchBase provides innovative and fully accessible resource for disabled people, carers, families and the local community. Facilities and services include a day centre base for children and families, drop-in resources for adults, music, visual and performing arts spaces, community offices, training and meeting rooms for hire and a community café due to launch next year.
Sir Terry Wogan
"It's wonderful to meet the young people and families who will benefit from the TouchBase, Children and Families suite. It's especially rewarding to know how vital the funding from Children in Need was in making this project a reality. Countless disabled children and their families, who are supported by Sense Scotland, will have their lives transformed by this unique resource."
Gillian Morbey, Chief Executive of Sense Scotland
"It has been a fantastic journey for us since Sense Scotland started working from a tiny office in the early 80's. Now, with the support of Children in Need, we have been able to give disabled children and families their very own space in the new TouchBase resource. This accessible and friendly suite will provide children and young people with a place to meet, experience new activities and above all have the time of their lives."
Cathy, whose daughter Sylvia uses the new family suite in TouchBase:
"It's absolutely fantastic. There's nothing else like this for children like Sylvia. She loves the music and dancing. I never realised how much I needed Sense Scotland's support until I got it."
Additional funding for the Children and Family Suite was provided by the following supporters:
