Expression Unlimited - A year long music project for Sense Scotland and partners across Europe
Focusing on the importance of arts through music for people with sensory impairments
Sense Scotland has been awarded a one-year grant from the European Union 'Culture 2000' arts fund to lead an international music project entitled 'Expression Unlimited'. The project will bring together deafblind and mainstream musicians from Scotland, Italy, Greece, Norway, Netherlands, Slovakia and Croatia.
Gillian Morbey, Chief Executive of Sense Scotland said:
"The name Expression Unlimited sums up the project. We will give deafblind and mainstream artists the chance to work together and share ideas. Artists will have the opportunity to travel to other countries, experience different cultures and develop their creativity."
"Communication can be difficult for all of us, it can be particularly difficult across different languages and cultures. However not only will participants overcome these barriers, they will overcome hearing and visual difficulties. This is a hugely exciting and challenging project and one that Sense Scotland, as one of the co-organisers, is delighted to be part of. Expression Unlimited marks an exciting phase in arts development for deafblind people on an international level."
Taking place throughout 2004, Expression Unlimited will look at the expression of ideas through music while developing the European arts network for people with complex disabilities. The main first event is being planned to take place in Italy in April / May 2004. It will bring together all the countries involved for a week of music events and workshops leading to a performance in Scotland in September 2004.
With the support of the Culture 2000 programme of the European Union.
