Plans for new Head Office / Community Resource Base revealed
We have invested our funds and bought a property that will be our new head office. The building is in a Social Inclusion Partnership designated area and is located right in the community. The building is in the Greater Govan area not far from Kinning Park. This is a huge commitment from Sense Scotland and we want the building to say something about our values and culture. In this respect head office functions will be fully integrated with service user and carer facilities. There will be a child and family area, arts suites, training facilities, snack bar, etc.
In addition to the head office we will be relocating our Glasgow day centre and some family centre activities there, which makes great economic sense. However much more importantly those of you who know the centres will be aware of how pushed they both are for space.
We will have a children and family area where play days, day care, advisory, out and about, parent enabler project, toy library etc will all be located together for the first time. The family centre will continue to provide residential respite. Day centre activities will be located there but be developed, as there will be more space for all the arts activities. We hope to have a full recording studio and visual art and woodwork facilities will offer a great deal more.
This is a huge opportunity that will greatly improve facilities for staff, families, children and service users. The building will be fully accessible and there will be additional amenities such a community caf, space for performances, training rooms, sensory environment as well as quieter areas for children and adults who are not so keen on stimulation, more in line with an autistic friendly space. The building requires extensive refurbishment and is likely to take about a year by which time Sense Scotland will have gained an important asset that will serve future generations well.
The entire project is costing £3 million, which includes a £1.8 million refurbishment programme. We currently need to raise £1.5 million. If you want to find out more or would like to help us complete the project contact:
