A Christmas message from Daniel's Mum and Dad

A hand holding a christmas tree decoration

At the children's Christmas Party last year Sense Scotland supporters created beautiful paperchains that decorated the trees with kind messages to the children and their families. This year we have a gift for you, Gift Tags created by deafblind and disabled children and young adults, because your kind donations make it possible for Sense Scotland to organise this very special Christmas Party for our children.

At last year's party Daniel, in fancy dress as a Christmas Pudding, had a wonderful time! He is three years old and has Microcephaly Chorioretinal Dysplasia which means he only has a little sight in one eye and he has a learning disability. Not that it stopped him running about TouchBase, as he is a very active boy, into everything and racing around the party as he was so excited, and only sat down for the interactive sensory story!

The parties Sense Scotland invite us to mean such a lot to us, and to see all your messages of support gives us a real boost. Please accept our gift tags as a token of thanks for your kind and generous donations which will enable Sense Scotland to organise a Christmas Party again this year.

Daniel and Leo sitting with Santa Claus

Sense Scotland helps us in so many ways, in particular we were worried at how frustrated Daniel was becoming at being unable to express himself. The early years are really important for Daniel as he has delayed learning capacity and we really needed professional help with his communication at an early stage.

Daniel has been using Makaton sign language to support his communication and is now using more and more words which is fantastic. We have been going to Sense Scotland's Parent and Toddler Group regularly and Louise the playworker has been encouraging his communication through sensory exploration in the Sensory Room.

Louise also helps him name things and uses 'cause and effect' toys, as his favourite game is to turn things on and off. At the Christmas party someone kept turning all the lights on and off, and we knew exactly who it was!

Daniel's brother Leo, who is six, goes to the Siblings Group, which he loves as he gets lots of attention and takes parts in activities with his friends. As you can see, Leo enjoys meeting Santa too!

We hope you can return the gift tag with your message for the children. Even if you have recently made a donation it would be wonderful if you were able to return the gift tag to decorate TouchBase so that the all the children and families can see just how many people care so much, all year round!

Thank you for making the children's Christmas Party possible for Daniel and over a hundred other deafblind and disabled children who come to the TouchBase Christmas Party. Sense Scotland is a big part of our lives and with your help we know Sense Scotland will always be there for Daniel and other children who need them, helping children like Daniel learn life skills and make their own choices in life.

Our best wishes for a wonderful Christmas to you and your family and our thanks for your continued support of deafblind and disabled children.
