Big Lottery Fund award £416,000 for TouchBase
We are delighted to announce that we have just been awarded a grant of £416,509 by the Big Lottery Fund for our new TouchBase resource. The money will fund a new five year project called 'Reaching Out' to develop projects and services from the new resource. TouchBase, based in Kinning Park, Glasgow is an innovative and fully accessible community space for disabled people, carers, families and the local community.
This Big Lottery Fund grant builds on their previous 2005 award of £125,000 which part funded creating drama and woodwork rooms in the building. TouchBase facilities and services include a day centre base for children and families, drop-in resources for adults, music, visual and performing arts spaces and a community café, due to launch later this year. Chief Executive, Gillian Morbey was overjoyed about the award:
"The 'Reaching Out' project will develop the skills and confidence of the disabled children and adults who will be using this fantastic new resource. By developing the use of facilities within TouchBase, Sense Scotland will be able to create a centre of excellence for the people we work with through use of our ICT and training café resources."
The grant along with funding from a charitable trust will fund a new centre development manager and training café manager, support the development of ICT and buy adapted computer equipment for disabled people. Community groups such as carers groups and youth groups will also benefit through access to and use of TouchBase facilities.
