SAM Conference: At the heart of it all
practice, partnership and personal development.
Wednesday 17th September 2003
Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundee
This is the second in a series of three conferences charting the progress of the Sensing Art and Music (sam) project, which over three years will develop the arts and the senses for people who use our services.
Lindsay Mitchell, our Arts Development Officer said:
"The first sam conference last year was a hugely successful and enjoyable day for everyone who attended and took part. This second event is an excellent opportunity for people to catch up with the progress of our artists and the arts workers who are part of this project."
Examples of work created through the sam project will be on display in the venue, including 2D and 3D artwork, a children's art gallery and musical soundscapes.
A one day conference for:
- People working with and supporting people who have communication difficulties and complex support needs
- Arts practitioners and professionals
- Organisations supporting disabled people
- Health organisations
- Social work departments
- Educators
Confirmed Keynote Speakers:
- Mike White
- Director of Projects, Centre for Arts and Humanities in Health and Medicine (CAHHM), University of Durham
Mike is going to talk broadly about the type of work they do at CAHHM - and more specifically about developing opportunities for learning development and fostering partnerships between arts, health and other agencies. - Paul Hart
- Principal Officer, Sense Scotland Practice Development Department
Paul will specifically talk about training and learning development within Sense Scotland and in particular discuss the Partners in Communication project. - Lesley O'Hare
- Arts Coordinator, Fife Council
Lesley will focus on the three-way effect that a project like Bridges (which 2 Sense Scotland service users are accessing) can have: impact on clients, support staff and the artists themselves and how this might provide sustainability. She will also look at how the arts can act as a focal point for bringing a number of different services together and what benefits that can bring to all partners.
