Who We Are

Arts and Wellbeing

Gayle Calderwood, Visual Arts Tutor

Gayle develops and delivers a programme of art that is responsive to the needs of individuals and groups who access art. Prior to taking the post with Sense Scotland Gayle worked for 8 years in a freelance capacity leading arts projects with a wide variety of organisations including local authorities and a further education college.  During this time Gayle predominantly worked with adults who have complex communication needs and also gained useful experience with other groups including projects with mainstream school children, youth groups and learning support for young homeless people. Gayle has worked with Sense Scotland since April 2005.

David McCluskey, Music Tutor

David has been a music tutor with Sense Scotland since September 1999 and is based at Touchbase in Glasgow.  He has successfully developed a whole range of innovative approaches and ideas to enable individuals with disabilities to find alternative ways of communication and self-expression through the powerful medium of music. David was a founder member of the 80's pop group The Bluebells who enjoyed a string of top twenty hits including the anthem "Young at Heart", then went on to form the McCluskey Brothers with his brother, Ken, releasing three albums on their own Kingfisher label.  As well as being an active musician in the Scottish music scene David has been involved in community arts projects in Glasgow since 1996. He has recently completed an Arts Education diploma and is working towards a Diploma in Deafblind Studies.
