Our performance group, who wowed
audiences 2 years ago with their play PARK, are back with a new
production 'Home'. The group have been working hard to devise this
new concept and story, which focusses on the subject of home. They
all have very different experiences and views on what home means to
them. Some are supported by staff to live in their own home and
some still stay with their family. Jon Reid, Sense Scotland's
Creative Arts Tutor and director of the play explained:
"The performance will explore home
as a place of sanctuary and safety, a scary new venture, a place of
staff and routines, a lonely place and a place of warmth and
family. Home is also a place full of memories, of repetition, of
stories and of chances both missed and taken. It's a fantastic
journey the group have been on, devising the play and we're all
very excited about sharing it with audiences at the Platform."
Sense Scotland support Yvonne to
live in her own home in East Kilbride. She talked about her
involvement as an actor in 'Home':
"Jon asked us what we wanted to call
the play and I said home. I'm mostly doing all the speaking."
The play involves people who
communicate through a variety of ways, including signing, gesture
and vocalisations. Yvonne explained what other performers were
doing in the play and what she feels about being involved.
"Ian and Anne dance, Eilidh and Ian
do the burglar scene. It's the first play I've been in...it's about
ourselves.acting ourselves in a house."
Finally, asked what she enjoyed
about the experience most Yvonne said:
"...being with other people."
