Childrens' Play and Art Work

In the summer of 2002, BBC Children in Need Scotland awarded Sense Scotland a grant to support a new post of Children's play and art tutor. Regular art, music and play sessions now take place at our family resource centre in Glasgow - which supports some 80 children and their families; at the Out and About Service all over Glasgow, and will soon commence with children and families using our services in the East of Scotland.

Jon, Childrens Play and Art Tutor says:

"I've seen the children growing in confidence and finding new ways to communicate. It's about allowing the children to be children - encouraging messy play, providing a safe environment for creative expression through music and art and basically having fun."

Mark aged 14 says:

"I enjoy the sessions and my favourite bit is the drumming. I like it when I drum first and Jon copies me."

Imelda Comaskey, Senior Practitioner added:

"The children certainly seem to brighten up and become animated. Their levels of concentration and enjoyment are high and they really seem to get a lot out of it. It's also, really helpful for staff to see what to do and how to take things forward."
